Gary Vaughan has shown a passion for helping small business owners through his work in economic development and working with small businesses counseling them to sustainability and growth. His management experience is in several industries including; retail, petroleum, and manufacturing. Prior to launching Guident Business Consultants, LLC, Gary worked with Entrepreneurs through his position as Associate Director of the Venture Center, an Entrepreneurship Center at Fox Valley Technical College in Appleton, WI. Gary was also a partner in a manufacturing firm for eight years where he was responsible for administration, human resources, financials, and safety.
Gary is currently chairman of the Small Business Committee at the Fox Cities Chamber of Commerce & Industry. He is a member of the Wisconsin Entrepreneur’s Network and has been a judge for the Wisconsin Governor’s Business Plan Contest for the past several years. Gary is also a member of the Appleton Downtown Rotary International where he serves on the Mentoring Committee.
Gary has traveled several times to China as an advisor to Lawrence University students and as a delegate for NEW North, Inc. The purpose of these trips was to cultivate and establish relationships focused on import/export opportunities for northeastern Wisconsin businesses. Gary remains active in the NEW North, an 18 county regional development non-profit organization, as a volunteer member of their Small Business Committee and often works on special projects for the NEW North. Gary currently serves as a board member of the Kurgan/Appleton Sister City Program as a citizen diplomat assisting businesses in Kurgan by developing entrepreneurial education and training. Gary and his wife Sharon have traveled to Kurgan and have opened their home several times as hosts for Kurgan delegates visiting Appleton.
Gary is a national speaker and presenter and has given presentations at several state and national conferences, including Orlando and Las Vegas. He specializes in speaking to Associations helping to educate their membership on best business practices, strengthening their member’s businesses, and helping to sustain a stronger membership base.
Gary is a senior adjunct instructor for Concordia University of Wisconsin where he has taught undergraduate and graduate courses. Courses he has taught include; Staffing, Compensation & Benefits, Business Strategies, Ethics, and their Management and Communication undergraduate degree capstone course: Business Plan: Integrative Project. He has taught courses on their Green Bay, Appleton, and Mequon, WI campuses.
Gary has a Master of Science degree in Management and Organizational Behavior from Silver Lake College, Wisconsin. He earned a Bachelor of Liberal Studies degree with a business administration minor from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. He also holds a Professional in Human Resource Certification from the Society for Human Resource Management. Gary has earned a certificate as a NxLevel Instructor from the University of Colorado at Denver and has been an instructor for the Fox Valley Technical College’s E-Seed™, Entrepreneurial Training Program.
Gary married his wife Sharon in 1976 and they have two grown children. Their daughter and son-in-law are living in New Berlin, WI and their son resides in Milwaukee, WI. Gary and Sharon have lived in Kimberly, WI since 1989.
